One of our stops on our Rhine River cruise was the German city of Cologne. A highlight of our day there was a visit to the Cologne Cathedral, which features this awesome stained glass window in the south transept of the Cathedral. Designed by Cologne artist Gerhard Richter and dedicated in August 2007, the window is 106 square meters (1141 square feet) in area and is comprised of - you guessed it - 11,263 glass squares in 72 colors. The squares are 96 mm (3.8 in) on their edges and the colors were distributed at random. The sun-glade cast on the interior is truly spectacular.
