We have a duck box in our back yard that has, over the past 2 years, housed several duck families of wood ducks and whistling ducks. The mother ducks lay as many as 20 eggs and when the brood hatches, it is cool to see the little ducklings popping our o the the box and into the water below. The juvenile blue heron in this photo appears to be considering using the duck box as his own personal perch. He was in that spot for several days and I got a number of photos of him. (The duck box was empty and no ducklings were harmed...)
